Advanced Mercury SCR Catalyst

The next generation catalyst offered by Cormetech is aimed at allowing coal-fired power plants meet stringent mercury emission standards without costly Activated Carbon Injection (ACI) solutions.

Pending 2011 U.S. EPA standards and existing state rules for mercury (Hg) emissions will require coal-fired power plants to make technology decisions to address increasingly stringent Hg emission limits. Coal fired units with installed SCR and FGD systems can take advantage of a major SCR co-benefit in the form of mercury oxidation.

Cormetech Solution
The next generation SCR catalyst jointly developed by Cormetech and MHI maximizes the conversion of elemental mercury (Hg0) to a water- soluble oxidized (Hg2+) form for subsequent capture via absorption in the downstream wet FGD.  Low HCl content in the fuel/flue gas and high flue gas temperatures can limit the conversion of Hg0 to Hg2+.  Cormetech’s advanced SCR mercury oxidation catalyst is specifically designed for high conversion of Hg0 to Hg2+ (as HgCl2) under a broad range of operating conditions including traditionally challenging aspects presented by higher temperatures and/or low halogen concentrations.

The Benefits
Coal-fired units can use the existing SCR and FGD equipment to increase mercury capture by modifying current SCR catalyst management plans and incorporating new advanced Hg oxidation catalyst, thereby limiting incremental investment in alternative mercury capture equipment and sorbent utilization costs.

Continuous Development
Since its foundation, Cormetech has continuously introduced new products to meet and exceed customer requirements. Cormetech offers its very best technology and breadth of resources and experience to ensure reliable performance at the lowest total ownership cost. Cormetech has always been committed to maintaining its market position through technology improvements derived from its independent development efforts and through joint programs with its world class technology parent companies.
